El 24 de octubre, André Denk, director ejecutivo de la Agencia Europea de Defensa (EDA, por sus siglas en inglés), realizó visitas oficiales a Grecia y Chipre en el marco de su gira por capitales europeas iniciada tras asumir el cargo a comienzos del año. En Atenas y Nicosia, Denk mantuvo encuentros con ministros de Defensa y altos mandos de las fuerzas armadas de ambos países, centrados en el fortalecimiento de la cooperación en materia de capacidades y adquisiciones de defensa dentro del marco de la Unión Europea.
Durante su estancia en Grecia, Denk se reunió con el ministro de Defensa Nikolaos Dendias y posteriormente sostuvo conversaciones con el mayor general Ioannis Bouras, director nacional de Armamento, y el mayor general Ioannis Korres, director de Capacidades, junto con sus equipos técnicos.
En Chipre, las reuniones incluyeron al ministro de Defensa Vassilis Palmas y a Panayiotis Hadjipavlis, director de Capacidades y Adquisiciones de Defensa.
Los encuentros sirvieron para reafirmar los vínculos de ambos Estados miembros con la Agencia Europea de Defensa, subrayando la cooperación en el desarrollo de capacidades conjuntas, interoperabilidad y proyectos bajo el marco intergubernamental de la EDA. Se destacó asimismo el papel central de la Agencia en la preparación y coordinación de los objetivos estratégicos de defensa de la Unión Europea.
En las conversaciones se anunció que, con motivo de la próxima presidencia chipriota del Consejo de la Unión Europea en el primer semestre de 2026, Chipre y la EDA coorganizarán una conferencia europea de defensa en la primavera del próximo año, orientada a debatir el futuro de la política común de seguridad y defensa europea.
