El 29 de septiembre de 2025, la Marina Real Australiana (RAN) realizó pruebas de transportabilidad marítima de vehículos de combate a bordo del buque de asalto anfibio HMAS Adelaide, frente a las costas australianas. La actividad formó parte del proceso de certificación operativa de los nuevos tanques M1A2 Abrams de próxima generación y de los vehículos de reconocimiento de combate Boxer Block II, recientemente incorporados al inventario de las Fuerzas Armadas australianas.
Durante los ensayos se verificó la integración estructural y logística entre los vehículos terrestres y las capacidades del buque tipo LHD (Landing Helicopter Dock), con el objetivo de confirmar la seguridad, estabilidad y eficiencia en las operaciones de carga, transporte y desembarco. Estas pruebas permiten garantizar que las unidades blindadas puedan ser desplegadas rápidamente por vía marítima hacia zonas de interés estratégico o de apoyo humanitario, bajo condiciones reales de operación.
El HMAS Adelaide fue seleccionado por su diseño de poco calado, que le permite operar en puertos y áreas costeras restringidas, inaccesibles para buques mayores. Su capacidad de transporte de vehículos pesados, helicópteros y personal lo convierte en una plataforma de proyección anfibia clave dentro del esquema de movilidad conjunta de las Fuerzas de Defensa de Australia.
El coronel Ben Shepherd, director del proyecto de Insumos Fundamentales para la Capacidad, y el coronel David Hughes, a cargo del programa de vehículos de combate terrestre, destacaron la importancia de la evaluación para garantizar que los sistemas de armas combinadas —tanques, vehículos de exploración y medios navales— operen de manera sincronizada y expedita, asegurando que las fuerzas terrestres australianas puedan desplegarse con rapidez y eficacia en cualquier teatro de operaciones donde el país tenga compromisos estratégicos o de seguridad regional.
