Canadá adquiere sistemas HIMARS

El 1 de octubre de 2025, el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos autorizó la venta de veintiséis sistemas de artillería de cohetes de alta movilidad M142 HIMARS y equipos asociados por un monto estimado de USD 1.750 millones a Canadá. Esta venta se realiza mediante el proceso de venta militar extranjera (FMS); la Agencia de Cooperación en Seguridad de la Defensa (DSCA) notificó formalmente al Congreso estadounidense la operación,

La solicitud canadiense incluye, además de los lanzadores HIMARS, 132 pods de cohetes M31A2 GMLRS Unitary, 132 pods M30A2 GMLRS de ojiva alternativa, 32 pods M403 de alcance extendido con ojiva alternativa, 32 pods M404 de alcance extendido unitaria, y 64 pods M57 ATACMS. Incluye también pods de práctica, manuales electrónicos interactivos, herramientas, equipos de prueba, radios tácticas AN/PRC-160 y AN/PRC-167, equipos de intercomunicación 7800I, cargadores de claves SKL, repuestos, asistencia técnica, capacitación y apoyo logístico.

El contrato principal será ejecutado por Lockheed Martin, con sede en Grand Prairie, Texas. La implementación prevé viajes periódicos de equipos técnicos estadounidenses a Canadá que participarán en revisiones del programa y actividades de adiestramiento.

Según el comunicado, la venta contribuirá a fortalecer las capacidades de defensa de Canadá y su papel dentro de la Organización del Tratado del Atlántico Norte (OTAN), “mejorando su aptitud para ejecutar operaciones de disuasión y defensa colectiva, especialmente en el ámbito euroatlántico”.
