El 11 de octubre de 2025, el líder norcoreano Kim Jong Un presentó el nuevo misil intercontinental Hwasong-20, durante un desfile militar en Pyongyang con motivo del 80.º aniversario del Partido de los Trabajadores de Corea. El acto, transmitido por la televisión estatal, se desarrolló en la plaza Kim Il Sung y contó con la presencia de altos mandos del régimen, representantes extranjeros y miembros del Comité Central del partido.
El desfile tuvo como eje la exhibición del Hwasong-20, señalado por la prensa oficial como el arma más poderosa del país, capaz de portar una ojiva nuclear múltiple y alcanzar objetivos en cualquier punto del planeta. Junto a este sistema, también se mostraron misiles balísticos de corto alcance, de crucero y supersónicos, todos ellos descritos por la Agencia Central de Noticias de Corea (KCNA) como plataformas aptas para cargas nucleares y para la ejecución de ataques de precisión sobre objetivos en Corea del Sur y Japón.
Analistas del Instituto para la Estrategia de Seguridad Asiática y de medios especializados en defensa señalaron que la mera presentación de un nuevo modelo intercontinental representa un mensaje estratégico hacia Washington y sus aliados regionales, evidenciando la continuidad del programa balístico de Pyongyang pese a las sanciones internacionales. El Hwasong-20 se diferencia de su predecesor, el Hwasong-18, por su mayor tamaño y el empleo de un sistema de propulsión sólida de tres etapas, lo que incrementa su alcance y reduce el tiempo de preparación para el lanzamiento.
Durante el acto, las tropas desfilaron al ritmo de consignas alusivas al poder nuclear nacional bajo el lema “Poder absoluto, patria invencible”, en una puesta en escena orientada a reforzar la cohesión interna del régimen. El líder Kim Jong Un saludó desde el podio, mientras el público agitaba banderas con el emblema del partido.
