En el plano político, la Casa Blanca vinculó el incremento de los ejercicios y operaciones en el Caribe con su política de presión sobre el gobierno de Nicolás Maduro, al que acusa de dirigir el denominado “Cartel de los Soles”. Desde Caracas no se emitieron declaraciones oficiales, aunque voceros del Ministerio de Defensa venezolano calificaron en ocasiones anteriores las maniobras en el Caribe como “acciones provocativas de carácter extrarregional”.
