Perú rompe relaciones diplomáticas con México por el asilo a la ex primera ministra Betssy Chávez

El 3 de noviembre de 2025, el Gobierno del Perú anunció la ruptura de relaciones diplomáticas con México, luego de que el gobierno mexicano iniciara un proceso para otorgar asilo político a la ex primera ministra Betssy Chávez, última jefa de gabinete del expresidente Pedro Castillo. Chávez, que ocupó el cargo de primera ministra durante poco más de dos semanas antes de la destitución de Castillo en diciembre de 2022, enfrenta un proceso judicial por conspiración y participación en el intento de disolución del Congreso. La exfuncionaria, también exlegisladora, había sido detenida en junio de 2023 y liberada en septiembre de 2025 para continuar su defensa en libertad.

Tras el anuncio, el presidente constitucional del Perú, José Jerí, dispuso que la encargada de negocios de México en Lima, Karla Ornela, abandone el país en un plazo perentorio. La ruptura ocurre en un contexto de inestabilidad política interna en Perú, luego de la destitución de la presidenta Dina Boluarte por el Congreso el pasado 10 de octubre, que dio paso al gobierno interino de Jerí. El incidente reaviva las tensiones diplomáticas entre Lima y Ciudad de México, ya presentes desde 2022, cuando el gobierno de Andrés Manuel López Obrador manifestó apoyo público a Pedro Castillo tras su destitución.
